Caring for the marginalized people is a new sensation in the religious world and a core initiative among religious missions of Shincheonji Church of Jesus. Shincheonji Church of Jesus, established in 1984, has been doing volunteer work up to now for 30 years.

This year, 62,000 volunteers serviced for 103,139 socially neglected people.  A tally of days spent volunteering gives a total of 6,699 days from its foundation to the end of last month.

Recently Shincheonji Church of Jesus held the last graduation ceremony of the Bible study course of this year, and resolved to volunteer energetically for 'Embracing Neighbors' next year which is an important social role of a religion.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus stated "It wasn't easy to discover and support the marginalized people of local societies" and appealed their difficulties in the beginning of volunteering by adding "In the beginning, people avoided and slandered our volunteer work. Public offices didn't provide status of socially neglected classes of their regions". The church said "A few local residents started to open their hearts and now they praise us 'No one volunteers as much as Shincheonji Volunteer Group' ".

There are six main volunteering initiatives in Shincheonji Volunteer Group.  Medical volunteering service for foreign laborers in South Korea, Mural paintings, Events for Veterans, Culture and Welfare Supports for the elderly, Lunch pack donations to the marginalized people, and Environmental cleaning.

The 'Visiting Doctor Program (Medical volunteering service for foreign laborers in South Korea)' is to protect human rights and provide health care for foreign laborers who lives in South Korea, it is held in the beginning of every year. It benefited 18,000 foreign laborers this year.

Believers of Shincheonji Church of Jesus volunteer for diverse initiatives. 'Wall Story' for the renewal of old walls into beautiful murals, 'Pink Lunch Pack'  delivering lunch boxes to neighbors who can't afford food and Kimchi Donation Events etc.

'Wall Story' is a mural painting volunteering service. It renews scenery of a village and revitalize streets by giving brilliant painting to old and dull walls. Professionals of art and design take the lead and donate their talents. It changes the atmosphere of a town and creates new popular streets. It is complimented by local residents for energizing the local economy. A total of 165km murals have been painted for the last 5 years. Leading famous painters of South Korea also participate in the activity.

'Patriotism and Peace Sharing' is an initiative for veterans. It is held in June the month of defense and veterans to commemorate sacrifices of patriotic martyrs and to leave peace to future generations. Supporting and Consoling event and a campaign are proceeded for independence patriots, victims who were forced to work by the Imperial Japan, and war veterans.

'Centenarian Beauty' is a culture and welfare program for the elderly. A volunteering program to wish health and happiness of seniors in the neighborhoods. Banquet, hairdressing service, foot massage, recreation,  photographing are offered and it is provided monthly by a local church.

'Pink Lunch Packs' is an initiative that supports lunch boxes for the socially marginalized class. It delivers meals to neighbors who can't afford food. A nutritionist plans a menu and volunteers who are good at cooking prepare lunch boxes. It also donates Kimchi and briquettes in winter. This is monthly service and it discovers people of marginalized class in local societies to serve. This winter the entire church participated in the activity .

'Nature Be Green' is an environmental cleaning program. The Green Earth Project  cleans  roads,  forests, and rivers in regions. It works with local residents and other environmental organizations.

It also participates in volunteer works for the national events such as the gigantic hand-printed Taegeukgi(Korean flag), production of the monument to the declaration of unification of Korea and  events on Memorial Day and Independence Day.

The persons of social contribution team of Shincheonji Church of Jesus mentioned "Just as Jesus who sided with alienated and lowly people, we will offer love and donations to any place where our help is needed. Next year, we will once again put more effort to be a church that communicates with local residents.".

What drives this rapid growth of Shincheonji Church of Jesus? The answer is passionate Bible education according to the persons of the church. More than 20,000 students graduated from the Bible study course this year. Moreover 100,000 students have graduated in the last 5 years. Every year they grow in number.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus set the principle of a Bible-centered faith as the absolute standard of the church and have been focusing on intensive Bible education since its foundation. As a result, hundreds of thousands of students have graduated and most of them entered Shincheonji Church of Jesus.

This is very distinguished from other Christian orders in Korea. When students graduate from 'Zion Christian Mission Center', a month of education is followed then they are registered as a duty worker of a local church. Afterwards, they belong to Elderly / Men / Women / Young Adults community of a church according to their age to lead faith-life in each community.

The church also gives Bible exams to check the faith of believers occasionally. This year, 4 exams about the entire Bible have been done. Every member of the church takes the exam, which is very different from other Christian denominations.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus declared "More than 100,000 students have graduated in the last 5 years. It is not a simple swelling of numbers achieved through inducing attendance. It is an evidence that the believers respond hugely to the principle of a  Bible-centered faith and an intensive Bible education"

And added "It is not really easy to study Bible while doing other works. However everyone knows that this is an endeavor to be a believer who is fit to the Bible and that is why they make extra time for Bible study". This is significantly different view of faith in comparison with other established Christian denominations.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus was established on March 14, 1984. It is headquartered in Gwacheon and found approximately 100 churches across the world today. Its initial number of 120 members in 1986 has dramatically skyrocketed to over 200,000 as of 2016, which is 1666 times of increasement comparing to the start in last 30 years. The name "Shincheonji{신천지(新天地)}" is an acronym for "New Heaven New Earth" in Korean, which refers to "a new tabernacle and new believers." Shincheonji Church of Jesus operates 400 Zion Christian Mission Centers in 32 countries where the entirety of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation is taught free of charge.
