Shincheonji Church of Jesus “Let’s resolve your misunderstandings”
Shincheonji Church of Jesus
“Let’s resolve your misunderstandings”
Established churches' misunderstandings about ‘Shincheonji Church’s doctrine’ are used to slander Shincheonji Church
It appears that the Korean Christian press (CBS, Kukmin Daily etc.) and pastors from the established churches severely distort the words and doctrines of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Chairperson : Mr. Man Hee Lee; abbreviated as 'Shincheonji Church of Jesus') in order to slander it.
They insist that their doctrinal critiquing is objective, yet they disseminate completely false information about Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which is very different from what the church teaches. This is yet another case of slander through lies. What follows are common false understandings by the established church about Shincheonji Church of Jesus and the truth regarding them.
▲ If we go to Shincheonji Church of Jesus, we won’t die?
This false conception emerged because people didn’t understand ‘the hope for eternal life’. No Christian can deny that God has promised eternal life throughout the Bible (Psalm 133:3, John 3:15~16, John 6:40, Titus 1:2, 1 John 5:13) but only God knows the day when His promise of eternal life will be fulfilled (Act 1:7, 1 Thessalonians 5:1). Congregation members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus endeavor to not lose ‘the hope of eternal life’, according to 1 Thessalonians 5:6 ("but let us be alert and self-controlled”). This is a fundamental and compulsory attitude of a Christian who has perceived the Bible correctly.
▲ Shincheonji Church of Jesus deifies the chairperson as ‘the religious leader of a sect’ and ‘the Counselor, the Holy Spirit’?
In the first class taught at Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the church teaches that the master of religion is ‘God’. If someone perceives the teaching of the spirit and flesh, one will come to know that the chairperson (who is flesh) is neither God nor the Holy Spirit. The congregation members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus don’t deify the chairperson, but respect and follow him as the reality of the fulfilment as someone who has made known the secrets of the Bible through revelation. They respect and follow him because they have listened and checked according to the words of the opened Bible. This is why Shincheonji Church of Jesus repeatedly emphasises on checking the reality through the Bible.
▲ Shincheonji Church of Jesus worships the chairperson as ‘king’?
This distorted claim also emerged from ignorance rooted in a misunderstanding of the Biblical term 'king’. In the Bible, Pilate asked Jesus “Are you the king of the Jews?” and Jesus replied “Yes, it is as you say.” (Matthew 27:11). This ‘king’ refers to a 'shepherd’, not a king of the world. We call Jesus ‘the king of kings’ to mean that he is ‘the shepherd with the greatest truth’. The congregation members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus think of the chairperson as a ‘king’ because he has the words of revelation which pastors from the established churches do not have. They believe as such because they have checked the fulfilment through the Bible.
▲ Shincheonji Church of Jesus asserts ‘a time-constrained eschatology’?
Shincheonji Church of Jesus assures that there is no ‘end to the earth’. As we pray ‘your kingdom come’ (Matthew 6:10) in the Lord’s Prayer, God wills to come back to the world (Revelation 1:8) and has given the duty of healing the world to Christians (Revelation 22:2) through the Bible. Advocates of time-constrained eschatology are pastors from large churches who claimed in the 1990s 'I have no pastorship plans for the 21st century’ and famous pastors from the established churches who absurdly insisted on ‘the rapture’ whereby ‘churches will be raised up to the sky’.
▲ Only 144,000 people will be redeemed?
144,000 people and a great multitude in white robes are written in the Bible (Revelation chapter 7). Moreover, God wants ‘the healing of all nations’ (Revelation 22:2). The purpose of redemption is huge and all-encompassing, as it is written in the Bible. The claim that only 144,000 people will be redeemed is nonsense and the explanation by Shincheonji Church of Jesus about ‘sealed 144,000 people’ written in the Bible has never changed. However, the established church insists that the 144,000 is comprised of ‘12 (12 physical tribes of the Old Testament) × 12 (Jesus’ 12 disciples) × 1,000 (full number)’, but this formula is an unreasonable and arbitrary calculation which has never been written in the Bible.
▲ Shincheonji Church of Jesus disguises themselves when evangelizing?
Shincheonji Church of Jesus believes that spreading the words of the Bible is an important duty of a believer's life. Shincheonji Church of Jesus cannot let people learn the word by openly admitting their affiliation because the established church has created such a negative stereotype which permanently excludes Shincheonji Church of Jesus. Shincheonji Church of Jesus provides an opportunity for people with a logical mind to listen to their words without bias or prejudice. This is because the church believes that it should maximize every opportunity for people to learn the precious word of God in spite of the many false stereotypes made by the Christian press etc.
