Faith and Disappointment

God gave Eve to Adam to be his partner. Adam and Eve loved each other, and they trusted each other.

One day, Eve was deceived by the serpent and ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. She also gave some to her beloved husband. The fruit was given by the serpent to Eve, and Eve to Adam, which ultimately caused both to die. In other words, it was an act of faith and disappointment.

In the moment when the serpent was acting in lawlessness, if Eve rebuked the serpent and reported to God and Adam, she would not have eaten the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and died. In the moment when Eve gave the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil to Adam, if Adam had “a faith in believing that the day he ate of it will be the day when he will be sinning against God and die,” he would not have accepted to eat the fruit. It is evident that the faith of Adam and Eve was trivial to them. Even though they understood the promise, they did not keep it.

Job, too, was tested, and even if Job had to curse himself because of the pain, he did not let go of God. Therefore, God gave back to Job what he had lost.

In obedience, Abraham offered his son Isaac, whom he had received at the age of 100, as a sacrifice (Gn 22). Therefore, Abraham is considered the father of faith (refer to Rom 4:16, Gal 3:7).

Today we have seen many things in the Bible. Before all else, we must think about the words of the Bible. If we are mindful of God’s perspective and our own perspective, we would not dare to commit such sin. The martyrs gave up their lives to keep God’s promise, and we must have the same kind of faith. Let us keep the words of Revelation chapter 1 verses 1 through 3 (Rv 1:1-3). Amen.
